A growing number of people do not like to cook rice in pots made from aluminum, which are covered with nonstick coatings. The nonstick coating eventually gets scratched and starts to flake off into the food. For this reason, a few consumers are trying to find electric rice cookers with ceramic pots.
Introduction
To my knowledge, there are only three alternatives to rice cookers with nonstick cooking pots. You may buy a rice cooker with a stainless steel, clay or ceramic pot. No more worrying about aluminum pots or PTFE coatings.
Be that as it may, rice cookers with ceramic cooking bowls are very hard to find. Nevertheless, I have found a precious few examples of electric rice cookers that have a ceramic insert. Keep reading to learn more about them.
Joydeem Ceramic Pot Rice Cooker
The Joydeem FD20S-W ceramic pot rice cooker is perfect for small households, capable of cooking three cups of uncooked rice or six cups of cooked rice.
Its inner pot is crafted from ceramic, ensuring durability and safety without harmful coatings. The non-stick surface simplifies cleaning, and its compact design allows it to fit seamlessly in any kitchen.
This rice cooker comes with four preset cooking options, making it easy to prepare white rice, soup, congee, and brown rice.
It also features a 24-hour delay start function for convenient meal planning. Thanks to advanced microcomputer technology, it offers precise temperature control, guaranteeing perfectly cooked rice every time. Well, most of the time, anyway.
The uniquely suspended shape of the ceramic pot encourages even heating, resulting in fluffy and tender rice. Made from high-quality natural ceramic materials, it provides excellent heat conduction and retention. Click here to read more on Amazon (paid link).
Tianji Ceramic Pot Digital Rice Cooker
The Tianji FD30D is a 3-liter digital rice cooker with a 6-cup uncooked rice capacity (about 10 cups of cooked rice). Its cooking capacity is too much for a single person, but should be big enough for a small household of up to 5 people.
The inner cooking pot is made from ceramic, thus it is a Teflon-free rice cooker. The ceramic insert seems to be good quality.
The Tianji FD30D looks a bit foreign due to its buttons being labeled in both Chinese and English. The manual also seems to be in those languages. Unfortunately, I cannot really see what menu programs it has except for cooking rice, soup or porridge.
The following accessories might be included with the FD30D rice cooker: English/Chinese manual, power cord, rice cup, rice spoon, rice spoon holder and a soup spoon.
To sum up, the Tianji FD30D is one of the very rare digital rice cookers with a ceramic cooking bowl. If it did not have such a bowl, then I would probably not have noticed it. There is not much information about it, but you might check its availability and current price on Amazon (paid link).
Aroma Ceramic Inner Pot Rice Cooker
The Aroma ARC-6206C has a 6-cup uncooked, or 12-cup cooked, maximum rice capacity. The minimum capacity is 2 cups of uncooked rice. There are no markings inside the ceramic pot for cooking less than two cups of rice.
The ceramic insert does not contain lead or cadmium deposits. It has been coated with a glaze which gives it a shiny appearance and nonstick quality.
The ARC-6206C can cook more than just white or brown rice. It has 12 menu functions for preparing rice and other dishes such as white rice, brown rice, grains, porridge, soup, steamed vegetables and yogurt.
The Grains function can be used for cooking grains such as quinoa. The recommended ratio of water to quinoa ratio is 2:1.
A few essential accessories are included with the ARC-6206C ceramic pot rice cooker. A rice measuring cup, vegetable steaming tray and bamboo rice paddle are included.
The best thing about this Aroma digital rice cooker is not its menu options. There are other rice cookers that also offer multiple cooking functions, but they usually have nonstick cooking bowls. The ARC-6206C has a ceramic inner bowl, which is a very rare feature indeed (shop now on Amazon – paid link).
Hannex Ceramic Pot Rice Cooker
This Hannex rice cooker has a good quality ceramic cooking bowl. The inner lid is made from stainless steel. There is no aluminum or nonstick Teflon coatings inside the rice cooker. The body of the rice cooker is a combination of stainless steel and white molded plastic.
The ceramic bowl has a 2-liter capacity. It can cook enough rice for 3, maybe 4 people. Rice does not stick to the ceramic inner surface of the cooking bowl. Therefore, you will never have to scrub away burnt rice from the bottom of this pot.
The inner pot gets very hot during cooking, so be very careful not to burn your fingers. The ceramic pot also retains heat for a long time after cooking, so do not keep the rice on the keep warm setting for too long.
The control panel is located on the top of the lid instead of on the front side of the rice cooker. Starting from the top, it has a small display screen that displays the time for the timer preset. There are four indicator lights: Rice Cook, Soup Stew, Porridge and Keep Warm. These light up when the setting is active. You can press the select button to select one of the cooking options. The last button is the Cancel/Off button.
The rice setting is for cooking white rice. There is no menu option for cooking brown rice. Nonetheless, a few owners cook brown rice in their Hannex rice cookers. You will need to soak the rice for about 30 minutes before cooking it in the rice cooker. Brown rice needs a little more water than white rice, so add more water. You have to experiment until you find the correct ratio of water, soaking time and cooking time. This is not the best rice cooker for cooking brown rice.
The Hannex RCTJ200S has a Timer/Preset button for setting the delay timer. The time is displayed in the small digital display screen. The maximum cooking delay time that can be set is 9.5 hours.
A rice measuring cup and a serving spatula are included with the Hannex RCTJ200S ceramic pot rice cooker. Only use the included measuring cup to measure the uncooked rice.
The Hannex RCTJ200S has a ceramic inner cooking pot, which is nice. Unfortunately, this Hannex ceramic pot rice cooker seems to be unavailable most of the time (view offers at Amazon – paid link).
Conclusion
In the final analysis, I think the best rice cooker with a ceramic inner bowl is probably the Aroma Housewares ARC-6206C. It beats the other options when it comes down to overall design and operation. I just hope that you can still find one in stock.
Otherwise, you will have to try out one of the other strange-name brands, such as the Joydeem ceramic rice cooker or the Tianji FD30D model (check its price on Amazon – paid link).
I hope that this review of rice cookers with ceramic inner cooking pots have helped you in some small way to get the rice cooker you want. Thank you for reading!

A rice cooker with a ceramic inner cooking pot is only one of the options available to you if you want to avoid PTFE and aluminum. However, the disadvantage of a ceramic pot is that it can break if it falls down. It might also crack when exposed to extreme temperature changes, such as pouring cold water into the ceramic pot when it is hot.
The most popular alternative is a rice cooker with a stainless steel pot. The drawback of a stainless steel cooking pot is that rice sticks to the bottom. Its advantage is that stainless steel does not react with the rice in the pot. Also, it will not crack or break if it is dropped on the floor by accident.
You may also take a look at my review of rice cookers with clay pots. The disadvantage of a clay cooking bowl is that you need to handle it with care. Dropping the clay pot or exposing it to extreme temperature changes might cause cracks. Nonetheless, you might be able to buy a clay pot rice cooker if you cannot find a ceramic pot rice cooker that you like (or that is still available).
